Infinitely Frustrating Circle (2013)
Gressel creates a playful sculpture where a highly recognisable game (croquet) is impossible to play as the hoops are positioned in a never-ending circle.

Playing with our ideas of expectation and games, the audience is effectively left out of the game. They are invited to play, but as it is impossible to swing the mallet within the hoops, or to make a ball glide in a circle, they can only look on this self-contained game. This piece reflects on concepts of inclusion and exclusion within so called ‘high culture’.
Exhibited as part of ‘Get Culture’ exhibition, Rekindle Public Arts, Queens Wood, London in September 2013.
